Best Farmhouse Sinks under $500

Knowing that the height of your cabinets will be a limiting factor, make sure to go ahead and measure that first!

Your cabinets need to be 3 inches longer than the size of your new farmhouse sink. For example, a 30-inch sink requires a minimum cabinet size of 33 inches.

To help in your decision making, here are a few additional categories that may be of interest to you in narrowing down your list.

Listed in no particular order, let’s take a look at some of the additional features for each of these sinks to help you make the perfect selection for your home.

It also ships with a protective bottom grid and strainer that can be easily removed from the sink if desired.

In an Apple-esque sense, this sink doesn’t come with many frills, but it doesn’t feel limiting at all!

KRAUS KWF410

KRAUS Kore Workstation 36-inch Farmhouse Flat Apron Front 16 Gauge Single Bowl Stainless Steel Kitchen Sink with Integrated Ledge and Accessories (Pack of 5), KWF410-36

The Kraus KWF410 is a stainless steel farmhouse sink meant to double as a workstation! As you can see from the picture above, it comes with multiple accessories to help make you more efficient in the kitchen.

These integrate seamlessly with the sink ledge and allow you to slide the accessories around as needed.

Personally, I love to be able to wash fruit on one side and have a strainer on the other side to hold all the clean fruit. This sink allows you to hold both bowls with ease!

As with other stainless steel appliances, they can show fingerprints easier than other surface types. My two young boys are always touching things with greasy, peanut-buttery hands. The good news is that it is very easy to clean.

It’s also worth pointing out that stainless steel sinks can scratch. If you don’t use the bottom grid, it can be very easy to scratch the bottom or sides of the sink.

Note: These last two points apply to all stainless steel sinks, not just this model.

What is a farmhouse sink?

A farmhouse sink is often also known as an apron sink. It is open in the front so it can be seen above your cabinets. They can hold a lot of water and if you you are like my family, a lot of dirty dishes!

Traditionally they were developed to wash dishes and clothes. However, in these days, they will mostly be used for dishes and the occasional newborn.

Not only do they have an attractive nostalgic look, but they’re also extremely functional.

What’s the best material for a farmhouse sink?

As with many decisions, there are pros and cons to different materials for farmhouse sinks.

Stainless steel is extremely durable and won’t chip or corrode, but it can scratch during heavy use and can look dirty when not cleaned frequiently.

Fireclay provides a beautiful traditional look, however, there is a chance that it could develop stains or chips over time.

While copper and cast iron are other options for farmhouse sinks, none of this material made the list due to price considerations.

How to clean a farmhouse sink?

Regardless of the material, you should plan to clean your farmhouse sink on a semi-regular basis. Not only will this help prevent stains and gunk build-up, but it will help keep the sink a highlight of your kitchen rather than an eyesore!

In many cases, hot soapy water and a soft clean rag are all that it takes to safely clean away any grime or smears. More extreme cases may require a mild cleaner or baking soda to help remove the gunk.

How do you get stains out of a white farm sink?

Ahh yes – the one major fear that we all have with these large beautiful white sinks is what we will do if there’s a stain!

Lucky for you, these can usually be fixed without too much effort as long as you don’t let them set in for too long.

A quick home DIY mixture involves liberally sprinkling baking soda around the inside of the sink. Then squeeze some lemon juice over the baking soda and use a soft scrub brush to work the mixture together and all around the sink.

After a thorough scrubbing, make sure to rinse the mixture out using hot water and your sink should be good as new!
