In the modern world, contactless payment methods are becoming more and more common, but not all retailers accept them.
Does Lowe’s take Apple Pay?
A couple of decades ago, you’d be crazy to carry anything around in your wallet but cash.
But then debit cards and credit cards started becoming more commonplace due to their ease and convenience. But nowadays, we’ve gone a step further and can pay for things without even carrying a wallet.
Unfortunately, many major retailers aren’t up-to-date and don’t accept these payment methods. What about Lowe’s?
Lowe’s does not accept Apple Pay as a form of payment, either online or in-person at the stores. In fact, the retailer does not accept any form of contactless payment. Lowe’s accepts credit cards, debit cards, cash, PayPal (online), gift cards, and Lowe’s Business Accounts.
If you’re looking to buy a new kitchen sink, or some paint to freshen up your home, Lowe’s is the place to go.
But what if you want to use your iPhone to pay for your purchase? Does Lowe’s accept Apple Pay?
In this article, we’ll answer that question and tell you all about Apple Pay and how it works.
We’ll also discuss the other contactless payment methods that Lowe’s accepts, so you can be sure of which one to use before heading out to the store!
I’ve been a firm believer in debit cards my entire adult life. I pretty much never carry physical cash on me at any time, but I’ve been learning to use contactless payment methods instead.
These methods of payment are even safer than physical cash or cards, and I’ve become obsessed with learning all about them and how they work.
This research includes finding out that some retailers do and do not take contactless payment methods like Apple Pay.
What is Apple Pay?
Before we talk about Lowe’s (or any other retailer for that matter) and what payment methods they take, let’s actually look at what Apple Pay even is in the first place.
Many people in the world are still strict users of nothing but cash, while the majority of people choose to use nothing but debit and credit cards.
So what the heck is all this stuff about contactless payment methods?
Apple Pay is exactly that, a contactless method of payment.
That means that you don’t need to physically hand over your credit or debit card in order to make a purchase. Instead, you can simply use your iPhone (or Apple Watch, if you have one).
You can also use Apple Pay on your iPad, although this isn’t as common.
In order to set up Apple Pay and start using it, you first need to add a credit or debit card to your iPhone.
So using Apple Pay still requires you to have a credit card, debit card, or bank account to actually pay for the items, but it allows you to skip over actually carrying the card with you.
Setting it up is a simple process that can be done in just a few minutes. Once you have a card added, you can start using Apple Pay at any retailer that accepts it!
Can you use Apple Pay at Lowe’s?
Unfortunately, the answer to this question is no. Lowe’s does not accept Apple Pay as a form of payment in their stores.
There seems to be some chatter online about whether or not the home improvement retailer has accepted it in the past, but from everything that I can tell, Lowe’s has never accepted Apple Pay in its actual stores.
But what about online?
Does Lowe’s take Apple Pay online?
Sadly, the answer here is also no. Lowe’s does not accept Apple Pay as a form of payment on their website just like they do not accept it in person.
This means that you’ll need to use another form of payment (such as a credit card, debit card, or something else discussed below) if you’re looking to shop online at Lowe’s.
So if Lowe’s doesn’t accept Apple Pay, what other forms of contactless payments can you use? We’ll discuss that next!
Can you pay with Samsung Pay at Lowe’s?
Just like Apple and Samsung seem to be the two biggest rivals in all things smartphones (well, Apple/Android but you get my point), there’s also some competition between the two companies in terms of contactless payment.
To ensure they’re on par with Apple, Samsung also has its own form of contactless payment known as Samsung Pay. So can you use that at Lowe’s?
Unfortunately, the answer is still no. Lowe’s does not accept Samsung Pay as a form of payment in their stores or on their website.
However, there are, of course, some other major retailers out there that do accept Samsung Pay (as well as Apple Pay).
But if you’re shopping at Lowe’s this weekend, you’ll have to use a different payment method.
Does Lowe’s Accept PayPal?
So far we’re zero for two, but maybe we’ll fare a bit better with PayPal. As one of the biggest methods of online payment in history, Lowe’s just has to accept PayPal, right?
If you need to make a payment online but don’t feel comfortable adding your debit or credit card right to Lowe’s website, it would be a perfect time to use PayPal. But does Lowe’s accept it?
Finally, we have a winner! Lowe’s does accept PayPal as a form of payment on its website. So if you’re looking to shop online but don’t want to input your credit or debit card information, simply use PayPal instead.
You can also link your PayPal account to Apple Pay and use it that way if you’d prefer! This is a bit of a workaround to using Apple Pay, but if the money comes from the same account, you might as well just use PayPal and get it over with.
What forms of payment does Lowe’s accept?
We’ve talked about a few specific options so far in this list, but the only one we’ve seen have success is that PayPal works online.
But certainly, that can’t be the only form of payment that Lowe’s takes. Especially not at the actual stores across the country.
So just so that you’re prepared for your next trip to the store, let’s take a look at all of the payment options that Lowe’s actually does accept, either online or in the stores. These include:
- Credit cards: Lowe’s accepts all major credit cards including Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover.
- Lowe’s credit cards: You can also use a Lowe’s credit card to make purchases. Opening one at the store will also likely get you a discount of some sort depending on when you sign up.
- Debit cards: All of the same credit card companies are also accepted as forms of debit payment.
- Gift cards: Lowe’s sells its own gift cards in-store and online that can be used at a later date. You can also use a gift card from another retailer as long as it’s for store credit.
- Lowe’s business account: If you have a Lowe’s business account, you can make purchases and then get billed later on.
- Pay in cash: Of course, if you don’t have any other form of payment, you can always just pay in cash.
As you can see, there are quite a few payment options available to choose from at Lowe’s. But unfortunately, Apple Pay is not one of them.
And as contactless payments become more and more popular, it doesn’t seem like Lowe’s will be changing their policy anytime soon.
Will Lowe’s ever accept Apple Pay?
So moving forward, it looks like Apple Pay and other methods of contactless payment are going to become more popular.
But what about Lowe’s? Will they ever accept Apple Pay or Samsung Pay as a form of payment in their stores?
The answer, unfortunately, is probably not. As of now, it doesn’t look like Lowe’s has any plans to start accepting Apple Pay or Samsung Pay.
And with so many other payment options available, it doesn’t seem like they’ll be changing their policy anytime soon.
So for now, we’ll just have to keep using the old-fashioned methods of payment at Lowe’s.
