Having a 75-inch TV might sound like a great idea, and hey, it is a great idea. But before you head to your nearest electronics store, it’s important for you to take a look at just how big 75-inch TVs are so that you know what you’re really getting into.

A 75” TV is 75” when measured from one corner to the opposite corner (i.e. bottom left to top right). Typically, the width of a 75″ TV ranges from 60 to 70 inches and the height falls between 35 and 40 inches. On average, a 75” TV is 66.51” x 38.57”.

Is a 75-inch TV too big for your room? Or maybe you’re wondering if it’s the right size for your needs. In this blog post, we’ll discuss everything you need to know about 75-inch TVs before making a purchase.

Finally, we’ll give our verdict on whether or not a 75-inch TV is considered “too big.”

I’ve been a TV nut for all of my adult life. I love nothing more than going to the movies and seeing my favorite flicks on the big screen, so having a big TV at home was a no-brainer for me. However, I still did all my research to make sure that a 75″ was right for me and the space before blindly buying one.

Typical Dimensions of a 75″ Television

To get an idea of how big a 75″ TV really is, let’s talk about how TVs are sized and then look at the most popular 75″ units on the market.

The size of a TV, in inches, is the diagonal measurement of the screen. The diagonal measurement means taking a ruler and measuring it from one corner of the screen to the opposite corner, such as measuring it from the bottom left corner to the top right.

Some people think that a 75″ TV is actually 75″ wide,  but that’s not the case. The width of a 75″ TV varies depending on the model, but is usually between 60 and 70 inches wide.

In terms of height,  a 75″ TV is usually between 35 and 40 inches tall.

Here are some of the most popular TVs on the market and what their actual dimensions are so that you know exactly what to expect when you’re shopping around for a new 75″ TV.

Some of the most popular 75″ TVs and their dimensions are:

  • Samsung QN90A Neo QLED TV: 65.7″ x 37.7″

Should You Buy a 75″ TV?

In the end, the answer to this question really comes down to you and what you want.

For me personally, a big TV was too hard to pass up due to my preferences and what I wanted for my space.

But deciding to buy one is a pretty big decision. Not only are they pricey, but they’ll also immediately change up the look and feel of any room you put it in.

Some of the things to  keep in mind when you’re buying a new TV are:

  • How much money you’re willing to spend
  • The size of your room and where you’ll be placing it
  • How often you’ll be using the TV
  • What types of content you’ll be watching
  • If you want extra features, like HDR or a curved screen

Once you start running through all of these questions in your mind, you’ll be able to start deciding on whether or not buying a 75″ TV is a good idea for you and your space.

And even though I might be a little biased here, if you’re on the fence about buying one, I say do it. They really are amazing!

Is a 75″ TV Appropriate for Your Room?

Before you pull the trigger and hit the order button on such a big TV, make sure you consider whether or not it’s the right choice for the room that you’re going to put it in.

Based on the sheer size of a 75″ TV, it really will affect the mood of the room that you’re putting it in.

For example, if you have a smaller room like a bedroom or an office, then a 75″ TV might be too big.

Not only will it take up a ton of space, but it might also be overwhelming to have such a large screen in a small room.

On the other hand, if you have a larger living room or family room, then a 75″ TV might be a perfect size. It’ll fill up the space nicely and give you a great viewing experience for all your content.

Also, consider the area where you’re going to be mounting it. Many people choose to mount their TV over the fireplace or mantle. If that’s your plan as well, keep in mind that if the TV you’re looking at is wider than the mantle and fireplace, it might make it look a little off.

If you’re planning on mounting your 75″ TV, make sure the area is wide enough to accommodate it.

This same idea also rings true for windows and their location in the room where you’re mounting the TV.

You don’t want the sun beaming in and ruining the TV’s quality, so avoid mounting the TV anywhere where the windows are pointing right at the screen.

Additionally, you don’t want to block any windows with the TV by mounting it in a location where the edges and sides will creep in front of a window.

If you take into account all of the factors we just talked about, you should be able to make a decision about whether or not you should get a large TV pretty easily.

How Far Should You Sit From a 75″ TV?

Now that you know all about the different dimensions of a 75″ TV and whether or not it’s appropriate for your room, it’s important to discuss how far away you should actually sit from the TV.

After all, part of the reason why people buy such large TVs is so that they can have an immersive experience while watching their favorite shows and movies.

But if you’re sitting too close or too far away, you might not get the full effect.

One common way that has been used to figure out how far away you should sit from a TV is by using the following formula: take the diagonal measurement of the screen (in inches) and multiply it by 1.5 to 2.5.

So for a 75″ TV, that would mean that the ideal viewing distance would be 112.5 to 187.5 inches, or ~9.4 to ~15.6 feet.

Of course, this is just a general guideline and you might find that you prefer to sit closer or further away from the TV depending on your own preferences.

The reason that picture quality matters is because the closer you sit to a TV, the more pixels you’ll be able to see. So if you have a lower resolution TV, sitting closer might not be such a good idea because the pixels will be more noticeable and the picture won’t look as smooth.

In addition to just the pixels, there are recommended distances for the crispest images as well as the least eye strain.

For example, if you have a 75″ 1080p TV, it is recommended that you sit about 10 feet away from the screen. If you have a 75″ 4K TV, on the other hand, you can sit a little closer (around 4 to 8 feet) because the definition is much better from that distance.

This simple fact is one reason to consider spending the extra money for a 4K TV if you’re limited on space. The picture quality alone is worth it, however, and I wouldn’t suggest a 1080p TV unless you have no other options.

Is a 75″ TV Too Big?

In the world of TVs, it’s definitely on the larger side. In fact, if you have a 75″ TV, there’s a pretty good chance that you’ll have the biggest one among just about any of your friends or family.

Most people opt for a 65″ TV, while some decide to go for the 70″.

But that doesn’t mean that it’s too big for your home. If you have the space and you’re looking for an immersive experience, then a 75″ TV might be perfect for you.

Just remember to take into account all of the other factors we’ve talked about in this article, such as viewing distance and room size.

If you’re still not sure, a good way to test it out is to go to an electronics store and look at some of the 75″ models in person. This will give you a much better idea of whether or not it’s too big for your home.

Conclusion on 75″ TV Dimensions

A 75″ TV is a pretty big investment to make. But if you take into account all of the factors we’ve talked about in this article, you should be able to, decide if this size TV is right for you and your home.

75″ TV dimensions are not quite as straightforward as they seem, and knowing their actual height and width is important for knowing how to fit it into your space, or how it will affect the overall look of the room it’s going in.
